Formed in 1999 The Bryan Donkin Archive Trust was established to advance the education of the public by the provision of artefacts associated with the history of the great 19th century engineer Bryan Donkin and his mechanical engineering company for exhibition in museums and other such like places.
This to be achieved by means of, but not limited to, the following activities:-
Collecting – to purchase, to take into ownership those items donated, or to accept on loan, items of documentation, drawings, photographs, paintings, pictures, items of equipment and the like, which relate to the activities of the company known as Bryan Company Limited, since its formation in the year 1803, or which relate to the life and activities of Bryan Donkin, his family and relatives.
Cataloguing – to catalogue all items coming into the care of the Trust.
Restoring – to seek appropriate expertise and funds to bring items to a satisfactory state for exhibition, preservation and storage.
Preserving – to keep in such manner and in such place and with such expertise as is necessary to mitigate against further deterioration and to make, or have made, such copies of documents as the Trustees consider prudent.
Exhibiting – to maintain an exhibition of items locally in Chesterfield and/or nationally.
Educating – to provide items for public exhibition, research and reference and also to disseminate information by various means, all in such manner as is consistent with item preservation
